Join Cynthia Martin and Patsy Shreve as they discuss Soul Ties. These ties affect us in our soul. They are physical and also emotional.

00:01
Hello everyone we are here again and
00:07
welcome to Lunch and Learn I'm Cynthia
00:08
Martin you're one of your hosts my Patsy
00:11
Shreve and today's topic is going to be
00:14
about "Soul Ties" that's right Patsy and
00:18
one of the things about Soul Ties is
00:20
that you know it's like I was just
00:22
reading an article and the article said
00:27
something that I thought was really
00:28
interesting that there are three types
00:29
of information and for those of you who
00:31
don't know I'm traveling and I'm at my
00:33
third daughter's house and my
00:36
three-year-old granddaughter may shoot
00:38
through the back here I'm at her her
00:40
house visiting with them and I'm
00:43
upstairs in my bedroom she has a
00:44
beautiful farmhouse I love it so you see
00:47
a child run through it's my
00:48
granddaughter and she's Paisley and I'm
00:50
very proud about how beautiful she is
00:52
but anyway I was reading this article
00:54
and it was talking about three types of
00:56
information
00:57
there's familiar information which I
00:59
thought was really interesting because
01:01
you know there's so much time Patsey
01:04
that we know things about things because
01:06
you know we've been through ministry
01:08
school you know we're not spring
01:10
chickens we've not let me know we've
01:11
been around a few times and so there's
01:13
the familiar information that you and I
01:15
know that many of us in christendom if
01:18
that's a word know about we've heard it
01:20
before and so we hear it you know we
01:22
think I remember my daughter's telling
01:24
me one time that she was raised at a
01:27
Christian school and she'd had Bible her
01:29
whole life and she told me I just know
01:31
all that stuff mom it's just boring you
01:33
know she doesn't believe that anymore
01:34
but choosing a teacher teenager imagine
01:37
that but I think sometimes this
01:38
Christian we get that way when someone
01:40
announces the topic we think I've heard
01:43
that before and I know about that I've
01:44
dealt with it I don't need to hear
01:46
anymore
01:46
I think it's important that we listen
01:48
because sometimes you know God will show
01:50
us something new or as a lot of our
01:53
clients will tell us Patsy even just
01:55
this last one or that we work with they
01:56
feel like they're an onion and they just
01:57
got to a new place and a new level and
01:59
which God wants to deal with some things
02:01
and then the second type of information
02:04
was unfamiliar and I have a tendency to
02:07
be a little skeptical myself and I'll go
02:09
home and look it up myself but if
02:11
someone tells me something I'm thinking
02:13
I'm not quite sure about that I don't
02:17
you know I'm just not super trusting I
02:19
probably should be but a little bit more
02:21
trusting than I am but at least I go
02:22
home and look it up make sure but you
02:25
know there are some things that we come
02:26
across that are unfamiliar and you know
02:29
you and I have been into chased all over
02:32
you know United States and going to
02:33
different meetings and we're like no and
02:36
then we wouldn't we like Bob that's
02:37
that's really interesting I don't know
02:39
how does this connect tonight so I think
02:40
it's important for those who are
02:41
listening today if they hear something
02:43
or they hear this term or how we're
02:46
going to explain it because we do it a
02:47
bit differently that they don't just
02:50
wipe it out because they've never heard
02:51
of that before but you know kind of like
02:54
because the word so ties itself isn't
02:56
really in the scripture the concept is
02:58
but it isn't and then the third is the
03:01
uncomfortable and you know we see those
03:03
kinds we come against those and we come
03:06
up up with those when we're ministering
03:08
to clients it's an area in which they
03:09
have protected because they don't want
03:12
to know because if you know then you're
03:14
responsible so today as we're sharing
03:18
about the topic of soul ties I would
03:22
like you know you to whoever you are to
03:25
think about those three to make sure
03:27
that you don't just push this
03:28
information off being one of those three
03:30
as we tell our clients just humor us for
03:33
a little while maybe you'll learn
03:35
something maybe you won't and if you
03:36
don't that's great we're glad that
03:38
you're holding free but if you have a
03:40
struggle this may be one area so soul
03:42
ties today we're going to talk about I'm
03:44
gonna define it a little bit or so tie
03:46
isn't in the Bible you can't do a search
03:48
you can't go to Bible gateway you can't
03:50
look it up and and your concordance you
03:53
can't do a deep deep dive study and
03:55
search for the word soul ties it's not
03:58
there it's like Sunday school isn't
03:59
there the rapture isn't there it's a
04:02
concept that we've put words to to
04:05
explain what happens when two people
04:08
come together so a definition of a soul
04:11
tie could be knit or basically the
04:15
biblical definition where we see it is
04:18
in the word knit k and k nit you know
04:21
like we knit and cleave being stuck -
04:23
those are the two words that we find in
04:26
Scripture that
04:27
really point out and define the topic of
04:30
so types so when we net think about that
04:32
grandmas you know where grandmas buy
04:34
don't knit but will you knit together
04:36
something and it's tied together and
04:38
sometimes it can make something
04:39
beautiful but if it was mean and it
04:41
wouldn't be something that's beautiful
04:42
and if it's cleave it's kind of a path
04:45
he's gonna have a really cool example
04:47
later on us we're talking about this I
04:49
love this analogy or this this
04:52
demonstration that she does it's an in
04:54
here two fastened together to be glued
04:57
or to be joined and to be linked
04:59
together that's really what we're
05:01
talking about when we talk about soul
05:03
ties and so that leads us to point one
05:08
and our first point is that there are
05:10
godly soul ties so there can be sexual
05:14
or non-sexual soul ties what we call
05:17
soul ties that are godly between you and
05:20
God is a perfect example that is a good
05:23
healthy tie a good healthy binding
05:26
together in Janis
05:29
or in Deuteronomy 10 20 it says to him
05:32
you shall hold fast because we are to
05:34
hold fast to God and to be close to him
05:37
and to to cling to him and it can be
05:40
between your children can be a healthy
05:42
tie Jacob and Benjamin in Genesis 44 30
05:46
since his life is bound up in the lads
05:49
life is what it was talking about and so
05:52
it talks about how his father was was
05:55
concerned about him was was in a
06:00
positive way could be now there can be
06:03
negative and we'll talk about that later
06:04
too because there can be negative
06:06
elements to being bound up in your
06:08
child's life but there are good positive
06:11
things where we can really have an
06:14
interest in our child's life and and and
06:16
do things with them and to to be there
06:20
for them also there can be a good soul
06:24
tie between good friends Jonathan and
06:26
David were good friends in the Bible and
06:28
in First Samuel 18 when it says the soul
06:30
of Jonathan was knit to the soul of
06:33
David and there we see the word knit and
06:35
so it meant they were two very close
06:37
close friends they loved each other in a
06:40
in a not in a good way where they were
06:45
they were buddies and pals and they did
06:48
everything together and they were
06:49
concerned for each other and they looked
06:50
out for each other's back it was like
06:52
they had a covenant right right exactly
06:55
there was a covenant between them to
06:56
just watch out for each other and to to
06:59
take care of each other and then between
07:01
you and your spouse in Matthew 19 5
07:04
through 6 it says for this cause a man
07:07
shall leave his father and mother and
07:09
shall cleave to his wife the two shall
07:11
become one flesh so then they are no
07:14
longer two but one flesh and so there's
07:17
a godly element to soul ties that are
07:21
good but then there's other soul ties
07:23
that we're gonna be talking about
07:25
Cynthia
07:26
exactly so Patsy that's such a great
07:30
explanation and the ungodly soul ties
07:32
that you know and what we're concerned
07:34
about today because our hearts is that
07:36
you walk and wholeness and freedom in
07:37
1st Corinthians chapter 6 verse 16 and
07:41
17 the scripture tells us do you not
07:44
know that he who unites himself with a
07:46
prostitute is one with her and body so
07:50
it's talking about a sexual Union and
07:52
we're talking in in in particular he
07:54
uses the the idea of a prostitute but we
07:58
know from that Scripture that whoever
08:00
you unite yourself with is you become
08:02
one with them and it continues on it
08:05
says for it it is said the two will
08:08
become one flesh you know in many
08:11
marriage ceremonies we quote that we
08:14
talk about that we use that on our
08:16
invitations we put it on our marriage
08:18
little booklets that we have and so we
08:22
have another example and Genesis 34 1
08:25
and 3 talks about the story of sketch
08:28
sketch um I always have a hard time with
08:30
his work because I wanted makeup in it
08:32
because it's Hebrew and dinah dinah was
08:34
an Israelite and and skycam was the son
08:38
of the king of the area where they were
08:40
she went out to see the daughters of the
08:41
land and he took her he saw her he had
08:43
less horror he took her he lay with her
08:46
and it created a soul tie and so there's
08:49
a soul tie between you and every person
08:52
that you have been sexually
08:53
active with whether it was willing or
08:55
unwilling and in this particular case
08:57
the the scripture point said that she
08:59
was she was raped and so there's a tie
09:03
it's something that's taken from units
09:05
of violence so there are times that we
09:08
give in or give over us ladies or men
09:11
before we're married with other people
09:14
and also there are times then things
09:18
happen to us in the instances of rape
09:20
and incest in things before we really
09:24
understand what's happening so if you've
09:26
had some sort of a sexual encounter
09:28
before marriage with whomever and we'll
09:32
talk a little bit about that whether
09:33
that be your spouse whether it be your
09:36
former spouse if you've been married
09:38
before or whether that's been with
09:41
someone that you were you know just
09:42
hanging out with or a one-night stand or
09:44
whether you've had any kind of in sexual
09:46
relationship or any if you were
09:48
promiscuous all you know the whole gamut
09:51
of any kind of sexual relation ship
09:54
together so Patsy's gonna actually show
09:57
a diagram here and hopefully I can
09:59
explain it and if you can see you see
10:01
John and Mary John is in the blue and
10:04
Mary's in the pink and they are so
10:06
excited they get together and they've
10:08
met you know in a godly way they're
10:11
godly people and they've decided to get
10:14
married whoa congregation is so excited
10:17
because John and Mary are going to get
10:20
married however John has had a past and
10:23
we know that when we get saved we asked
10:27
for forgiveness right but John has had a
10:29
relationship with two women so he may
10:32
have asked God to forgive him of his
10:34
sins but Jan and sue the Bible tells us
10:38
that she that he became one with them so
10:41
all their stuff is also John's now
10:45
unless you start with it and then John
10:48
and Jan and Sue also had relationships
10:50
with two men so we have Bob and Ted and
10:53
Scott and Dan and those four and those
10:58
two are now coming into the relationship
11:01
with John so John is bringing one two
11:03
three four five six seven people
11:07
to the relationship the four men the two
11:09
women is that right four five six and
11:12
then himself so he's bringing seven
11:14
people into the relationship with him
11:16
and then we have Mary god bless Mary but
11:18
you know Mary has a past too
11:19
she's also had a sexual relationship
11:22
with Mike and Jake and then Mike and
11:25
Jake have had relationships my kind of
11:27
relationship with Jim and with Cindy and
11:30
then Jake has had a relationship with
11:31
Patty and with Lisa and also Mary is
11:35
bringing seven people to the
11:36
relationship the six that she the two
11:39
that she had relationship the two that
11:40
those people had relationship with and
11:42
then ourselves so that seven mention all
11:46
the other people the price people could
11:49
have it exactly people exactly Patsy
11:52
because we're being conservative today
11:53
right yeah most people you know have had
11:59
sexual relationships with more than two
12:01
people in their lifetime unfortunately
12:04
as the culture goes that tends to be the
12:07
truth so in this very conservative view
12:12
they're coming together and John has
12:15
seven and Mary has seven so there are 14
12:17
people and all their stuff all their
12:21
stuff you know if one of them had mental
12:25
problems that can be in Yorba in your
12:28
line one of them had physical problems
12:30
that could be in your line if one of
12:32
them had anger problems that could be in
12:35
your line so folks we're not giving you
12:37
license to say that any sin that you
12:39
perform is because I wasn't me it was
12:41
John that I had a relationship with
12:43
because you're still responsible but it
12:45
could be some residual left over from a
12:49
former relationship so it's important
12:52
that you think about these things and
12:54
that you deal with those so ties go
12:56
ahead Patsy yeah and so that we what
12:59
we're going to be doing and what we're
13:01
gonna explain is how to cut these off so
13:03
that you and John or John and Mary can
13:07
have a healthy healthy sexual
13:10
relationship in your marriage or a
13:11
healthy emotional relationship in their
13:14
marriage so that they're not carrying
13:16
all of this baggage and who knows how
13:18
many baggages they're coming
13:20
for these guys up here and these guys
13:21
down here so what what we do is we cut
13:24
it off and let them renounce and break
13:27
those off of us so that we're free to be
13:31
able to have a healthy relationship
13:33
exactly in Patsy
13:35
before we move on to the next
13:37
illustration you've been married for a
13:38
long time you've been married how long
13:40
you married for 30 years
13:41
47 years and 47 years okay applause
13:44
applause god bless you but I love Jim
13:47
you know I love Jim but you know he
13:49
brought stuff to the relationship it was
13:52
just gym stuff and his family stuff it's
13:55
hard to have a marriage right yeah and
13:58
so you brought stuff up nearly just you
14:01
so in John and Mary's case if they just
14:04
brought themselves and their families
14:06
that would be awfully hard to have a
14:09
marriage relationship but can you
14:11
imagine happened to deal with 14 14 plus
14:14
people's stuff and have a marriage
14:16
relationship and we wonder why marriage
14:18
is hard
14:19
right exactly so patty share with us the
14:22
next piece that I love this illustration
14:24
so here you are you're in love and or
14:30
you you and I and your significant other
14:34
whether you're married or whether you're
14:36
not married normally when you're not
14:38
married is what we're going to be
14:38
talking about and you come together and
14:41
you're joined together like the Bible
14:42
said you've cleaved together you've been
14:45
knitted together you've become one flesh
14:47
so here we are one flesh well then so
14:51
now you say well you know that's not
14:52
gonna work out that's not the one for me
14:54
we're gonna break up we're gonna leave
14:56
and so when you break up and come apart
15:00
from each other so what happens is when
15:04
you come apart from each other
15:06
you end up leaving part of you with them
15:13
and part of them with you in my heart
15:18
here is not tearing apart real well
15:21
because that's what happens as we leave
15:24
so meanly got hearts and if it's a
15:27
really nasty breakup yes you are ending
15:30
up leaving part of yourself with them
15:34
and them with you and so we end up
15:38
having fragmented pieces of ourselves
15:41
here and there and everywhere and also
15:45
it just causes part of our heart to be
15:48
broken that's right and empty and
15:51
missing there's parts of our heart that
15:54
are missing and then part of them which
15:57
isn't showing here but a lot of times
15:59
their their stuff clings to us too and
16:03
so and so we see how we end up with
16:07
their junk and they end up with our junk
16:18
you're pointing to it right here look at
16:23
hole in the middle and what's really sad
16:25
is that people try to go out and find
16:27
another relationship to fill and no
16:33
other relationship will ever fill that
16:35
hole because this is you it needs those
16:38
pieces need to be brought back and you
16:40
need to be in wholeness before you can
16:43
go into another relationship and have a
16:45
whole relationship because you're not
16:47
bringing a whole part of you a whole
16:48
person to a relationship sliding down my
16:51
chair here that's right we have all
16:54
these pieces exactly and we wonder why
16:57
we can't have healthy relationships and
16:58
every time it rips off more of ourselves
17:01
that more of ourselves
17:02
and we take on more of the other people
17:05
sorry Betsy I just know that's why
17:07
that's like oh my gosh that is so true
17:08
that's why we daily struggle people
17:11
struggle daily with other people's
17:13
baggage and you think it's your own and
17:14
you think it's your stuff but a lot of
17:16
times and some of it is some of it is
17:19
your stuff yeah but a lot of times
17:21
you're struggling with things maybe
17:22
you've never been involved in some
17:24
things and you're wondering why am i
17:26
struggling with this I've never been
17:27
involved in this before well this is why
17:30
because you're carrying somebody else's
17:32
stuff with you and that's why you're
17:34
having such a struggle with it exactly
17:36
and so people struggle daily with other
17:39
people's fat baggage and they're not
17:42
sure why and they think it's oh it's
17:45
just a bad it's just bad
17:46
he was just a journey yeah she was just
17:49
blah blah blah
17:50
and it isn't nothing we're not we're not
17:53
going there that's how we're talking
17:54
about but it could be all this other
17:57
stuff that residual stuff that you're
17:59
carrying and you say well not in the
18:02
church well honey let me tell you yeah
18:05
into the church and by the church I mean
18:07
the church body the Christian body that
18:10
the body of Jesus you know because he's
18:12
had and where'd the body yeah this does
18:14
go on and maybe it occurred before they
18:18
were Christians right but when we we
18:20
come before the Lord you know Justin
18:23
attended my daughter's Church here in
18:25
North Philly uh great shirts great
18:28
shirts a love her church and they had an
18:32
evangelist there and of course he leads
18:34
a people in a sinner's prayer Lord
18:37
forgive me for my sins you know we miss
18:40
the generational we miss you know the
18:43
sexual we miss all that and maybe that's
18:45
not appropriate for but oh now you're
18:47
clean you can walk free we do a
18:49
disservice by not explaining that there
18:51
are more things that may need to be
18:53
confessed when we do that so just kind
18:57
of a an odd thing that caught me
18:59
yesterday I was like I want to add
19:02
[Laughter]
19:12
[Laughter]
19:16
though so again we can have ungodly
19:20
sexual assult eyes we can also have
19:23
ungodly soul ties that are emotional so
19:27
we think of you we first thought is
19:28
sexual I think that's the first thing
19:30
that we go to is that their sexual and
19:32
we have to cut those and yes but we can
19:34
also have emotional soul ties that's
19:35
point three you can have an unhealthy
19:39
ungodly anything that is that is taking
19:42
you farther away from God or pulling you
19:44
away from God it's going to be an
19:46
unhealthy ungodly soul tie so with your
19:50
children you can have ungodly soul ties
19:52
maybe you're super controlling or maybe
19:54
they are so dependent on you that for
19:56
everything that it becomes unhealthy
19:59
there's there can be a healthy element
20:01
to that but then there's also can be an
20:03
unhealthy element to that relationship
20:06
with your children or with your parents
20:08
if you're younger and your parents are
20:10
still around
20:11
sometimes there's ungodly codependency
20:13
relationships there your parents are so
20:15
dependent on you for everything or or
20:18
you are dependent on them for everything
20:21
that it there's an unhealthy element in
20:24
there now there's there's healthy there
20:26
can be godly healthy relationships but
20:28
then when it starts becoming a negative
20:30
impact in your life and becomes a
20:31
negative influence in your life and
20:34
you're noticing that negative elements
20:36
that are coming as a result then you
20:39
need to examine that relationship to see
20:41
if there is an ungodly soul tie it can
20:43
be between friends you could have really
20:45
close relationships with friend but then
20:47
there could be this thing that goes on
20:49
these dynamics and their friendship that
20:50
goes on and you're back and forth and
20:52
and up and down and all around and you
20:54
need to discover what that unhealthy
20:56
part of that is so that you can break
20:58
that unhealthy with leaders with your
21:01
church leaders with your bosses with
21:04
your any leaders in your life there can
21:06
be an ungodly unhealthy relationship
21:10
there with your spouse you can have
21:14
healthy good soul ties which are godly
21:16
but then if there's problems going on
21:19
that you're constantly fighting and
21:21
strife and and all these other things
21:24
going on or you're so dependent on your
21:26
spouse one way or another that that it
21:29
becomes unhealthy because you can't do
21:31
anything without them and without
21:33
without their their input or without
21:36
them you have no life of your own as a
21:38
result that's unhealthy that's not a
21:41
healthy relationship so you have to
21:43
understand that there could be
21:44
codependency going on there and realize
21:47
that you have to break that portion of
21:49
that soul tie to read so that you can
21:52
maintain and keep the godly in place yes
21:56
there is a godly portion but you you
21:58
want to break off the ungodly part and
22:00
so that you can grow so your
22:02
relationship with that person can grow
22:04
and flourish and become healthy again
22:06
sometimes you may have ungodly emotional
22:10
ties to famous people or
22:13
or rockstars or people that you put up
22:17
on a pedestal thinking that oh my
22:18
goodness that you know they are just the
22:21
amazing most amazing person sometimes
22:22
it's evangelists and pastors and leaders
22:24
spiritual leaders and you have to
22:27
examine those relationships sometimes
22:29
can be with old boyfriends you think
22:30
about them all the time and they
22:32
constantly come up well if I was with
22:33
so-and-so then you know this wouldn't be
22:36
happening or if so-and-so if I had you
22:39
know and and it can cause a negative
22:41
impact in your life in your
22:42
relationships with others and you know
22:47
one of the things that Patti and I went
22:50
to the same ministry school together and
22:52
we interned in the same ministry office
22:54
you know go figure we were pastoral care
22:56
and our mentors were there Sumida who's
23:00
now sue EADS staff Janet Sudduth we had
23:03
dear dear friends there Judy Bryant
23:05
loved Miss Judy I learned so much from
23:07
that woman Connie Russ our Secretary of
23:10
the pastoral office and then of course
23:12
our our deliverance mentor bill Sudduth
23:15
and we were all there together Patsy and
23:18
I and it was just always fabulous I mean
23:20
you know what what dream to be
23:22
ministering before the Lord when the
23:23
Holy Ghost was free to do whatever he
23:25
wanted to do and you were there with
23:27
your ventures and your best friends I
23:28
mean how perfect could that be and you
23:31
know there came a time after I got
23:32
married that we felt it was time for me
23:35
to move on
23:36
and I really didn't want to cut you know
23:39
we can use the term the umbilical cord I
23:41
really did not want to leave that office
23:42
because everything was there it was so
23:45
awesome but the blow was slowing down
23:48
and getting a little slower and some
23:50
other things that happened and I really
23:53
began to think I should probably go and
23:54
Dean and I talked about it and I just
23:57
did not want to leave my friends I did
24:00
not want to and because I you know I
24:03
have this correct close very awesome
24:05
relationship with Patsy but we had that
24:07
in this large circle it's hard to
24:10
explain how awesome it was and never to
24:13
have been created since other than Patsy
24:16
and I have probably gotten closer not
24:17
probably I know we have but in that time
24:20
my one of my mentors Janet said to me I
24:24
was talking a little bit about it and
24:25
she said what's going on
24:26
I just don't I just don't know and she
24:28
said she stopped she said yeah that's
24:30
what's great about mentors they'll speak
24:31
into your life you know and she said
24:33
well right now in the name of Jesus
24:35
Cynthia I love you and I don't want you
24:37
to go for me but I want you to go if
24:40
that's what God wants so right now we
24:42
need to break the soul ties between us
24:44
so that might I your relationship your
24:48
friendship your honor of me is not
24:50
holding you back from what God wants to
24:54
do because so much God what so many
24:56
times we see that God wants to do things
24:58
in our lives and something holds us back
25:00
could it potentially be they so tie with
25:04
something or someone and so we broke the
25:07
tie and I actually ended up leaving that
25:09
position and moving on to the next place
25:12
so you know that's a example in my own
25:15
life of an emotional friendship tie and
25:19
then I have a want to talk a little bit
25:21
about having a soul time with a place
25:24
these are the two that a lot of
25:26
deliverance ministers people who are in
25:29
homeless don't talk about they talk
25:30
about the sexual but they don't talk
25:33
about the emotional friendship or being
25:38
tied up see now I use the opposite of
25:40
what the Patsey did when Deuteronomy
25:42
when he says my life is tied up in the
25:45
boy yes we love our children but our
25:48
life is shouldn't be tied up in anything
25:50
other than God himself and I realize
25:52
that there is tremendous pain when
25:54
someone loses a child well she didn't
25:55
actually end up doing but we never need
25:58
to be in such a way that our life is
26:00
through someone else our life only
26:02
should be through Jesus Christ and the
26:04
father himself but so I was ministering
26:06
with a dear friend and we were out of
26:10
town I don't want to say because I don't
26:11
want to give notice to this woman it was
26:13
many years ago and she was a very
26:17
wealthy woman and lovely lovely lady and
26:20
she was just unhappy and we began to
26:24
talk to her and as we were interviewing
26:26
her and talking to her about her life
26:27
she began to talk about when she lived
26:30
when she was a little girl in the
26:31
mountains of Kentucky and she went on it
26:34
was such a cute story about you know
26:36
being living in the holler and you know
26:39
all that in
26:40
being barefoot and you know living in a
26:42
shack and you know all that kind of
26:44
stuff that we look at we think oh how
26:45
quaint you know and and how wonderful of
26:48
a life you know running through the
26:49
woods and you know growing food and you
26:54
know there's nothing wrong with growing
26:55
food living in the woods and all that
26:56
but you know as you begin to talk to her
26:58
you know you begin to realize you know
27:00
where you oh no we were dirt poor you
27:03
know we had to have people bring us food
27:04
and we were just dirt floor and but she
27:07
just so romanticized the wonderfulness
27:09
of living in the hills of Kentucky so as
27:12
we went through her life her husband was
27:13
an executive at a very large oil company
27:18
I won't say the name she had lived all
27:21
over the world she lived in Spain and
27:23
she lived in all these places and she
27:25
lived in very spectacular homes she had
27:28
servants she had fur she had diamonds
27:30
she had cars she had you know not just
27:32
card the cars and she had everything
27:35
that a woman would say what a fabulous
27:39
luxurious life you know the Hollywood
27:42
lifestyle but she could just never be
27:45
happy with it you know she just you know
27:48
it's just not the same as living in the
27:50
hills of Kentucky and so um just kind of
27:54
out of the blue you know we were like
27:56
holy spirit you know this is the first
27:58
time I'd ever run into this and so I
28:00
asked the Holy Spirit about it and break
28:03
the snow ties with her home place and I
28:05
was like so we did we let her in a
28:09
prayer to break the soul ties of her
28:12
life as a little girl now it didn't
28:15
negate how wonderful it was but her
28:18
heart was owed it was like it was stuck
28:21
to glue to like Patsy's illustration to
28:25
there and all the 25 years that she had
28:27
been married to her husband and he
28:29
lavished her with love and gifts but she
28:33
could not receive them in the manner in
28:36
which they were given because her heart
28:38
was still in Kentucky right and I had a
28:41
situation too that it was similar when I
28:44
moved to Pensacola I had a nice house in
28:47
Oregon that I just absolutely loved and
28:50
it was fun five acres with horses and
28:53
animals and my kids grew up in that
28:54
house we had the markings on the wall
28:56
you know for their showing how tall they
28:58
got and everything I absolutely loved
29:01
that house and we moved to Pensacola and
29:02
and we had bought a very very nice house
29:06
in Pensacola that was just beautiful but
29:08
I just could not enjoy or appreciate the
29:12
house in Pensacola simply because I was
29:16
thinking so much about the house in
29:18
Oregon and all I did and I kept
29:21
continually thinking about the house in
29:23
Oregon over and over and over and I
29:26
thought oh you know I wish I was back in
29:27
Oregon I wish I you know and and didn't
29:30
have any idea that it could be a soul
29:33
tie with a house because that just I
29:35
didn't understand that until I went to
29:37
ministry and realized oh my gosh that's
29:40
what's going on I have a soul tie with
29:43
that house in Oregon and so when I broke
29:45
that soul tie it was amazing all of a
29:48
sudden I could see our new house in
29:50
Pensacola with new eyes and it was like
29:52
wow this is such a nice house you gave
29:54
us Lord this is beautiful
29:55
I don't know I couldn't appreciate it
29:58
before until I realized that I had
29:59
broken the soul tied with that house and
30:01
so also as we said ungodly soul ties can
30:06
be sexual or they can be emotional or
30:09
they can be with a place or they can be
30:11
with things so 0.5 is soul toys can be
30:14
with things hoarders
30:17
people who have to have all these things
30:18
in their houses have to buy and buy and
30:21
buy and buy and buy and I know right now
30:24
with the coronavirus that we've been
30:25
going through a lot of people are buying
30:26
online because it's really easy I've had
30:29
friends laughing and mention about how
30:31
oh my goodness you know I don't know
30:33
what's coming with ups but you know it
30:35
could be a llama this time I don't know
30:38
because they're ordering because you
30:41
know you can't get out and shop as well
30:42
but so but it can be with things because
30:44
I grew I moved a lot growing up I was in
30:47
the Navy my dad was in the Navy and so
30:49
we moved from place to place well the
30:51
only thing that stayed constant were the
30:52
things and so I had a real attachment to
30:56
things and material things were very
30:58
important because those were my security
31:00
and I hadn't realized that until we went
31:03
through this ministry and then I
31:04
realized wait a minute
31:06
you know things are so important they
31:09
shouldn't be that important to me you
31:10
know I mean things are nice to have but
31:12
it shouldn't be something that I have to
31:14
have everything in place and everything
31:15
has to you know and everything's so
31:17
important so you have to examine your
31:19
life and see you know they are there
31:20
things that are important
31:21
do I have old pictures or keepsakes from
31:25
old relationships that I'm hanging on to
31:27
because oh my goodness I was so in love
31:29
with that person and so that's so
31:31
important those kinds of things can
31:33
become a soul tie in your life those
31:36
kinds of possessions so you have to say
31:38
I'm a ninja see are these positions more
31:40
important to me then then go ahead am i
31:44
are they becoming coming between me and
31:46
God am i putting too much emphasis on
31:49
those are they unhealthy attachment are
31:51
they an unhealthy attachment in my life
31:54
and I think that's such a great
31:56
illustration Patsy I always love it when
31:58
you talk about it because I don't come
32:00
from a military family we didn't move a
32:02
whole lot I think I moved two times that
32:05
I remember what you know some more times
32:06
when I was a baby but I pretty much grew
32:09
up within and the two times I did move I
32:11
moved within a mile of you know growing
32:13
up now we made a Dean and I have made up
32:15
for since then but you know the idea of
32:18
the things is what made you feel at home
32:21
right you know that's a good thing as
32:23
you're growing up that that you know
32:24
your mother put it out you guys could
32:26
enter into into a new place but we don't
32:28
see how those things carry over into our
32:31
life right so that leads us to our sixth
32:34
point and that is you know the good news
32:36
is always say the good news the good
32:37
news is is you can repent and that's
32:39
really true that is always the good news
32:41
the good news is that we can repent and
32:43
the good news is is that we can get free
32:45
we can cut those ties and we can be free
32:48
from our soul ties so we need to make
32:50
sure that no one no thing no place takes
32:56
God's place in our lives you know we
32:58
could really equate it to Idol idol
33:00
worship in really as far as that goes
33:03
it's really very much tied to that
33:06
concept now we need to be honest before
33:08
God and we need to be willing to repent
33:11
you know if you're having issues with
33:13
something or something controls you to
33:15
the place you just can't you know we've
33:18
heard stories of
33:19
parents who just couldn't handle when
33:21
their child went to school I wouldn't
33:24
let them grow up because they were so
33:26
attached to them that's unhealthy for
33:28
your child as well as it's something
33:30
healthy for you we've heard situations
33:34
where you know people would carry around
33:37
pictures of former relationships and
33:40
they're married to someone else
33:42
oh here look weren't they beautiful and
33:44
you're like seriously we need to get rid
33:47
of that and so you know ask the Holy
33:49
Spirit ask him Lord you know there's
33:52
lots of times you know Patsy and I still
33:54
to this day say Lourdes or something
33:56
that I'm more attached to than you show
33:59
it to me Lord because I want all that
34:01
you have for me I want to be totally
34:03
whole and totally free to be the person
34:06
that you created me to be so we need to
34:08
ask we need to be the good news remember
34:10
is to weaken repent so we need to be
34:12
willing to repent and to break those
34:14
soul ties you know we encourage people
34:17
to make a list and then pray over those
34:19
those items so Patsy I'm assuming we're
34:23
getting pretty close to time are we okay
34:26
so we're getting out of time today but
34:28
our prayer for you is that you break
34:30
free from any ungodly soul tie whether
34:34
it be emotional whether it be spiritual
34:36
whether it be with a place would it be
34:38
with a person whether it be with your
34:40
things whether it be with your past see
34:43
and we pray that you can have that you
34:45
will obtain the healing and the
34:47
wholeness and the freedom so that you
34:50
can be all that he created you to be
34:52
so you know if you're having trouble
34:54
with that you can always contact us you
34:56
can go over to the website at real life
34:58

35:01
an email that's the word requesting that
35:02
you do if you need help trying to break
35:05
these things from your life or you'd
35:07
like a prayer because you're not sure
35:08
how to word it it's not about the words
35:10
it's about the heart intent but if you
35:12
would like to have a comprehensive so
35:14
type a prayer that you could pray over
35:17
the people the places and the things
35:20
send us an email you can send us an
35:22
e-mail at real life revised at gmail.com
35:25
I was trying to think what is our email
35:26
real life revised at gmail.com sometimes
35:29
things simple things are hard to
35:30
remember
35:31
harder so send us an email at real life

35:36
the subject light right sulci prayer and
35:39
we'll be sure and get that over to you
35:40
so again Patsy is there anything else
35:44
that you'd like to share as we get ready
35:45
to close out today no I think that's
35:47
been covered yeah I think you know it's
35:50
just really really fabulous to think
35:52
about you know even in my own life you
35:54
know God show me is there anything that
35:56
I anything anything that I need to be
35:58
break free from because I want to
36:00
encompass all you have for me so we are
36:02
out of time today and we want you to be
36:04

36:07
created you to be into and always we're
36:09
available if you need someone to walk
36:11
with you or talk with you you can
