I just finished reading a new book I picked up, "You Are Free, Be Who You Already Are" by Rebekah Lyons. I love it when I find another person who believes and is speaking the message I am. She does a great job and weaving her life story and the truths found in God's Word and truly found when in a relationship with Him.
Just listen to the chapter titles, To Be Free, Free To Be rescued, Free To Be Called, Free to Confess, Free to Thirst, Free To Ask, Free To Begin Again, Free To Wait, Free To Rest, Free To Grieve, Free To Be Weak, Free to Celebrate, Free to Be Brave, Free to Love, and Free to Set free.
Here are some great quotes I found in the forward of the book by Ann Voskamp
"No enemy can imprison you, because your savior empowers you."
"Nothing can hold you in bondage, because you are held by Him."
"Not one thing can hold you back because His arms are holding you."
"You are always made free from something, to become free for something"
"From slavery to meaningless pain - to serving from the most meaningful purpose.
"Bind yourself to Christ and you are free from everything else that binds."
I have always said that if you are in a pit and what to get out. You want someone who understands, someone who has been in a pit and gotten out help you. Not someone who "thinks" this is how it should go. Rebekah Lyons was in her own pit, and religion was a bit one she had to crawl out of.
When we are religious or people of faith. Our upbringing can be a huge blessing but it can also fill us with rules and regulations that are not specifically what God intended or that are even found in His word. I so appreciate the author's ability to be vulnerable and say I am not sure about this, my past teaching, or I have given room for this in my life but the Word says...
One of my personal favorite scriptures is Galatians 5:1, It is for freedom Christ set us free. Its just that simple He wants us to be free. When we are free we are able to move about emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually without encumbrances. We are truly able to assist those who are not free.
I encourage you to get a copy, its 228 plus pages of great writing and great truth.
